Peggy Lipscomb Guin, Age 84, of Long Beach , passed away on June 13, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Lafayette, LA while she cared for her as she battled cancer.
Peggy was born March 13, 1940, in Decatur, Alabama to Milton and Ruth Lipscomb, but spent her youth in Birmingham. She graduated from West End High School then moved to Tuscaloosa to attend the University of Alabama . She and her high school sweetheart , Harry Guin married in Birmingham, moved into married housing and soon Peggy stepped out of school and work to focus on being the best wife and mom ever. Their first 2 children would be born prior to Harry graduating. Graduation came next where they moved to Mobile for a short time before continuing to Long Beach where they would settle, build their home and add twins to their growing family. Peggy was a long-time resident of Long Beach.
As her children grew up. Peggy would reenter the work force and over her career she worked for Aramco -Saudi Arabia, Pine Belt Savings - Long Beach, Mississippi , Michaud- New Orleans, La., United States Navy – at John C Stennis Space Center.
Peggy was a devoted and kind mother who ensured her home was full of love and laughter for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Greg Guin , Danny Guin and Steve Guin and her daughter Leigh Anne Guin Bernard, all of which she loved and cared for deeply.
During Peggy’s life, she enjoyed spending time at the baseball field whether cheering Harry on while he coached or one of the children playing sports. She also enjoyed playing cards with her mother Ruth Lipscomb and her sister Patricia Crim Iannacone and a number of friends that she and Harry had over the years. Peggy had a competitive spirit and loved watching and attending Alabama Football games with Harry. What she loved most in life, though, was spending time with her family. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and fought bravely until the end to spend more time with them.
The family would like to thank friends and family for the expression of sympathy and thoughtfulness and would like to offer a special thank you to Hope Hospice of Acadiana and most importantly to her sitters, whom she loved so much and considered family, Erin Yeates, Lisa Chargois, and Thalia Vallier.
