Peggy L. Broussard, 72, of Ocean Springs, passed away on July 11, 2024. She was born on August 3, 1951, in Biloxi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clamire Joseph Jr (CJ) and Shirley M. Landry of Biloxi, and one sister, Angel Landry of Biloxi. Peggy resided in Ocean Springs for the last 49 years.

Survivors include her children, Nichelle Belue, Misty Broussard, Barry Broussard, and one grandson, Kingston Broussard; siblings were Clay Landry III (Jamie), Lane Landry (Peg), and Carla Stanley (Tom).

Peggy was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy of Biloxi in 1969. She earned the distinction of being the first two-letter-winner athlete in the school's history. She then attended the Perkinston Campus of the then Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College, now Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. While at Perk, Peggy won two Mississippi JUCO State Championships in Mixed Doubles Tennis and performed on the Perkettes Dance Team.

Peggy earned Bachelor's and Master of Secondary Education degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. She began her teaching career in 1973 at St. Alphonsus in Ocean Springs. Peggy moved into the Biloxi public school system in 1975 to teach for over 30 years, serving at Dukate, Howard II, Jeff Davis, and Lopez Elementary Schools. For 7 of those 30 years, she taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at Nichols Elementary School. She was also involved in her union, having served as either President or Vice-President of the Biloxi Chapter of the Mississippi Education Association for eight years. Peggy also taught as an adjunct at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on the Jackson County Campus.

After retiring from the Biloxi Public School District in 2006, she taught English as a Second Language (ESL) for the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi until 2020. She was a big believer in the value of education and encouraged all to continue learning.

Peggy was a devoted catholic and a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. She enjoyed the company of her beloved bulldog, Cece.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 4:00 PM, with visitation starting at 3:00 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
