Paul K. Abell, age 85, of Diamondhead, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011.
Mr. Abell was a native of Ridgeway, IL and lived on the coast over 20 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS LST 913 and 990 during WWII. He later retired as the owner/operator of Wilbur Moore Company. Mr. Abell was the president of the Diamondhead Mens Golf League on Wednesdays and also handled the Bradley group on Mondays. Mr. Abell along with his wife, Emilie, also handled the couples Thursday night bridge at the community center for several years.
Mr. Abell was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and he and his wife were avid golfers and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Abell Volkmann, his parents, Frank and Mary Roe Abell, his siblings, Geneva Rider, Wilma Daily-Mills, Louise Rider, Edward Abell, Cletus Abell, and Arthur Abell.
He is survivved by his wife of 64 years, Emilie Abell, a son, Clifford and his wife Susan, a son-in-law, Mark Volkmann, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm Thursday, May 27, 2011 at the Chapel of Annunciation Catholic Church where friends may visit from 11 am until the mass at 1 pm.
I n lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Sandra K. Abell Scholarship Fund to the University of Missouri, 109 Reynolds Alumni Center, Columbia, MO 65211.
The RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Rd., is in charge of arrangements.
