Ouida Ruth Whatley, 88, of Gautier, Mississippi made her journey into the arms of Jesus, September 11, 2022. She was born to John and Opal Edmonds Whatley on March 18, 1934 in Laurel, MS.
Ouida had a true love for Our Lord and his Word. Nan, as her grandchildren affectionately called her, was an adoring grandmother and cherished confidant. She had a great love for being outdoors and was happiest when she was able to work in her yard. She was an avid gardener with two green thumbs. Her yard and flower gardens brought her great joy.
Ouida also loved to cook and made many delicious meals for her family and friends to enjoy. Although her coconut cake was always a favored delight, she enjoyed treating her beloved son, Van, with one of his favorites, chocolate meringue pie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Paul Magee and James Campbell; brother, Steve Whatley; and son Randy Johnson.
Survivors include her son, Van Johnson of Vancleave, MS; grandchildren, Heath Johnson, Kim Johnson (Timmy) Hammonds, Kevin Johnson, Kody Johnson, and Vanna Johnson (Clint) Cook; great-grandchildren Jessica Hammonds, Gracie Hammonds, Owen Hammonds, Ellie Kate Hammonds, and Quinn Cook; and brother, Gary Whatley.
Visitation will be held on September 16, 2022, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Vancleave with a 10:00 a.m. funeral service following visitation. Burial will follow at Our Home Cemetery., in Ellisville, MS. Doctor Rev. Don Boone will officiate.
Pallbearers are Tim Hammonds, Owen Hammonds, Kevin Johnson, Kody Johnson, Logan Walters, and Alec Simmons; Honorary Pallbearers - Carrol Stewart, Steve Foil, Harold Chandler, Paul Smith, David Buchanan, and Doug Shore.
