Oliver Oren """"Red"""" Williams, Jr, 83 of Gulfport, died Monday, January 30, 2006 in Gulfport.
Mr. Williams was a native and lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He attended Gulfport High School where he played football and later joined the Army Air Corps serving during WWII in India, Burma, and Ryukyus. While in the service, he was awarded the APTO Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1984, he retired from Civil Service working at Keesler Air Force Base. Mr. Williams was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion, Joe Graham Post 119, Gulfport DAV, VFW, and 40 & 8. He was a director and vice-president of the MS Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, founding member and former deacon at Bay Vista Baptist Church, Biloxi, and was very proud to be a contributor and Charter Member of the World War II Memorial Society in Washington, DC.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Wiggins Kleinschmidt Williams; parents, Oliver Oren Williams, Sr. and Juanita Grantham Williams, and a sister, Katherine Chapman.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary W. Fuller, Boston, MA; son, Oliver Oren (JoAnn) Williams, III, Biloxi; step-daughter, Sue (Bruce) Cospelich, Gulfport; step-son, Bob (Bonnie) Kleinschmidt, Stevensville, MD; sisters: Ramona (T.P) Chapman, Gulfport and Jessie McKay of Pass Christian; 4 grandchildren: Chelsea Williams, Chet W. Miller, III, Steve Davis, and Lisa Kleinschmidt and 1 great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be 11 am Friday, February 3, 2006 at First United Methodist Church, Gulfport where friends may visit from 9:30 until service time.
Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
