Oakley "Rusty" Thompson

Oakley “Rusty” Thompson, age 59 of Saucier, passed away on September 17, 2021 in Gulfport.

Rusty was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Otha Leroy Thompson, Sr. and Vera Owen Thompson; his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Eunice Brewer; and his father, Otha “Leroy” Thompson, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 5-1/2 years, Robyn L. Ladner; his mother, Bonnie Jean Thompson; his children, Desiree’ Warden (Mike Lewis), Kelsey Jones (Josh), Julia Sterling (Russell), and Rusty “Lil’ Rusty” Finnegan; his siblings, Bradley Thompson (Lisa), Cynthia Eighmey (Walter), Jeremy Thompson (Hillary), and Nick Thompson; his grandchildren, Alison Warden, Brynnon Mullikin, Kaiden Lewis, Kiayra Lewis,  Madison Shaw, Maci Crum, and Hayden Frierson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Rusty graduated from Harrison Central High School and was employed with Volt Power Company. Because he loved horseback riding, he was the co-owner of Horserideforfun.com, an organization that offers guided trail rides. His other interests included working with heavy equipment, dirt track racing, listening to Swamp pop music, and camping with his family and horses. He organized several benefit trail rides for his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gulfport Memorial Hospital for their excellent care of Rusty.

Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach.  The funeral service will be Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Ladner Family Cemetery, Saucier.
