Norris Oscar Blackwell, age 91, passed away on September 20, 2010, at his home in Gulfport.
He was born in Saucier, MS in October 1918. His family later moved first to Woolmarket, then on to Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Margie Lott Blackwell; brothers, Kenneth Blackwell (Rosemary), Penton Blackwell (Ida); brother-in-law, Vic Stewart; and nephews, Jerry Blackwell, and Greg Stewart.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Jensen Blackwell; his son, Michael N. Blackwell (Joan); his sister, Berlyn Stewart; his brother, Wayne Blackwell; nieces, Linda Jermyn (Tommy), Donna Lofton (James), Ilyne Denmark (Donny), Chrissy Blackwell; nephews, Larry Stewart, Allen Blackwell; several great nieces and nephews; one step-granddaughter; and three step great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as crew chief in the 320th Bomb Group 444th Bomb Squadron (Marauder) from 1942 to 1945 in North Africa and Europe.
He was a member of Handsboro Baptist Church, Handsboro Masonic Lodge, Scottish and York Rite Bodies, and American Legion.
He was retired from Coast Materials Co. and was previously employed by Harrison Oil Co.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010, at 10:30 AM, with visitation one hour prior for family and friends at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME,. 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. Burial will be in the Jensen Family Plot in Evergreen Cemetery.
