Norma Jean Masters, age 86 of Gulfport, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on August 23, 2021.
She was born in McClure, IL, on July 26, 1935, to John Lowell and Corine Johnson. After graduating from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, IL, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bob.
Norma became a proud Air Force wife for 20 years and was a loving mother to three children. She was employed as a nursing assistant in the 1970’s and 1980’s in several medical facilities. She retired from the Gulfport VA in 1985 as a psychiatric nursing assistant and received several outstanding performance awards throughout her nursing career.
After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed bowling on leagues over the years. Norma loved to garden and work in her yard.
Norma was a member of Grace Chapel Church in Gulfport and loved singing in the church choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Masters; and her sons, Robert Masters, Jr. and Michael Masters.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Toni Deakle; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many nieces; nephews, and close friends.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Southern Care Hospice for their care and dedication during her illness. Also, a special thank you to Grace Chapel Church family for their prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of MS at PO Box 456, Ridgeland, MS 39158.
A one- hour visitation will be held at Ford & Sons Sprigg St. in Cape Girardeau, MO at 8:30 AM, Monday, August 30, 2021, prior to a graveside service at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, IL.
