Nettie Cartrett Poole passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Natchez, Mississippi, where she had recently moved in order to be close to family.
Born to John Olan and Luanna Doyle Cartrett in DeRidder, Louisiana, on February 9, 1919, she became a permanent Gulfport resident by the age of three. She graduated from Gulfport High School and retired from civil service with the payroll department at Keesler Air Force Base. She was married to J. Leonard Poole.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Marvin, Chester, Victor, J. O., and Robert; and sisters, Hazel Lee and Colleen Heist. She is also survived by her aunt, Christine Loftin, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Nettie C. Poole was recognized for eighty-five years of faithful service to the Lord at First Baptist Church in Gulfport. She taught in both the primary and the adult divisions of Sunday school. She was a member and teacher of the Esther Sunday school class. She was a prayer warrior, bible student and teacher, and a faithful servant. After retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed actively participating in the senior adult programs sponsored by First Baptist Church and also Grace Memorial Baptist Church. She had a joyful heart-continuously filling it with God's holy Word, christian music, humor, and books. She always had words of encouragement, smiles, and good laughs to share.
Visitation will be at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, on Saturday, June 28, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Chuck Register and Rev. Brian Upshaw of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
