Nelma Ruth Morrow Martinez, age 99, a lifelong resident of Long Beach and Bay St. Louis, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

Nelma was born in Opp, Alabama in 1920. She met and married Tony Martinez in Mobile, Alabama. She was a homemaker and was involved in her son's Cub Scouts Pack as den mother. She retired after 20 years as a Head Start teacher and loved ceramics, cooking, gardening and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joseph Anthony "Tony" Martinez; her parents, Robert and Clara (Holstead) Morrow; her siblings, Marie Morrow Ross, Robert Buren Morrow, Gracie Morrow Savarese, and Walter Clarence Morrow.

She is survived by her son, Keith Martinez of Columbia, MO; grandsons, Michael (Tammy) Martinez of Chelsea, AL and Patrick Martinez of Hoover, AL; great grandson, Noah; her sister, Flossie Valdez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Saad's Hospice of Mobile, her longtime caregiver, Stella Kennedy, and Valerie Caylor and family.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020, at 12:00pm, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd, Long Beach, MS. Visitation will be from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Interment will follow at Long Beach City Cemetery.
