Neal Stone

MSgt Neal W. Stone, U.S. Army, Ret, age 87, of Gulfport, passed away on September 29, 2018.
Neal was born in Cordova, Alabama and grew up in Gadsden, Alabama where he was an Honor Student at Gadsden High School.  He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, from May 14, 1951 until November 31, 1971where he retire as a MSgt. Neal lived his happy retirement years at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi where he made many friends.  He was the People's Champion at the home, always speaking out to make the home a better place for his fellow veteran residents.  He was known as a "Tough Guy" to his buddies.
Neal was a "Proud Dad" to his daughter, Darcey Stone Hartley, and his son, Neal Allen Stone.  They enriched his life beyond his greatest dreams.
Neal is survived by his daughter, Darcy Hartley; son, Neal Allen Stone; Son-in-law, Kevin Hartley; 3 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Ronnie D. Stone; and many nieces and nephews.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Lou Stone Johnson, Neal V. Stone; His step-father, Leo S. Johnson; and sister, Ruby Carolyn Swann, Betty Dean Stone Powell and Jessie Kaye Riel.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018 at 9:30 AM at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, 1800 Beach Drive, Gulfport, in the Theatre with a visitation for family and friends from 8:30 AM until the service. Burial with full military honors will follow 11:00 AM at Biloxi National Cemetery.
