Nathaniel W. Gadson, born on August 8, 1938, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord on February 20, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He lived a life marked by dedication, both to his family and to his profession, creating an enduring legacy that will be cherished forever.
Nathaniel beautifully blended his passions and skills, starting his journey as a young man who received his high school diploma and joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17. His commitment to serve his country flourished as he rose through the ranks, ultimately retiring as a Staff Sergeant. As an instructor and training supervisor, he imparted knowledge and skills, truly embodying the spirit of mentorship.
Following his military service, Nathaniel embarked on a notable career as an Electronic Technician, where he contributed to esteemed organizations such as Keesler AFB, NASA from 1975 to 1988, Avondale Ship Building, Litton Industries, and Northrup Grumman, retiring in 1998. Each role he undertook showcased his diligence and his unwavering commitment to excellence.
Nathaniel was not only a dedicated professional but also a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved children: Sonia L. (Arthur) Gadson-McCloud of Upper Marlboro, MD, Barron L. Gadson of Haughton, LA, and Dr. Nadia Comaneci Gadson-Moses of Baton Rouge, LA. He was a proud grandfather, cherished by Patrice L. Taylor of Tampa, FL, Durron Gadson San Antonio, TX, and Caidyn Chrystopher Moses of Baton Rouge, LA, and he found immense joy in his great-grandchildren: Lyric Gadson of San Antonio, TX, Darien B. Hurd Jr. of Tampa, FL, Zion Gadson of San Antonio, TX, and Mia Gadson of San Antonio, TX. Each of them carried a piece of his heart, and he helped shape their lives with love and guidance.
Although he leaves behind a grieving family, the memories of Nathaniel—his love for cooking, keen sense of fashion, and appreciation for music—will continue to inspire those who knew him. His laughter, warmth, and wisdom were blessings that brightened the days of everyone fortunate enough to share in his life.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Rufus Wilson; his mother, Emma Lee Gadson; his sister, Doris W. Gadson; and his aunts, Eloise Gadson-Stevenson and Mary "Mickie" Gadson. Their spirits will undoubtedly guide him as he embarks on his eternal journey.
