Nancy Austin Nix McDonough, 56, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011, in New Orleans.
Ms. McDonough was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. She dedicated over thirty years of her life as a preschool teacher. From 2003 to 2010, she served as office manager for Parkway Bakery and Tavern, her family's restaurant in Mid-City. She was a member of Saint Louis King of France Catholic Church in Metairie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas Nix, Jr., M.D. and Mary Elizabeth Barksdale Nix, her sister, Mary Lynn Nix Morrison, her aunt, Rosary Nix Hartel, and her grandparents, James Thomas Nix, Sr., M.D. and Vera Malter Nix, Luther Hendricks Barksdale and Ora James Barksdale.
Survivors include her son, Brian Martin McDonough, and his girl friend, Chantal Lemoine,of Luling, Louisiana; her daughter, Colleen Nix McDonough, of Metairie, Louisiana; her brother, James Thomas Nix Jr., and his fiancée, Sandra Kruse, both of New Orleans; two sisters, Elizabeth Barksdale Nix and Eileen Malter Nix, both of New Orleans; her brother-in law, William Edward Morrison, of Pass Christian, Mississippi. Nieces & nephews include Beth Nazar and her husband, Gabriel Nazar, and Sophia and Lucas Nazar of New Orleans; Jay Jones and his wife, Ruth Arnberger, of New Orleans, William Edward Morrison, Jr., of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, the Reverend James Nix Morrison of Auburn, Alabama, Eileen Morrison McLendon and her husband, Jason McLendon, of Mobile, Alabama, John Joseph Kennedy and Justin Barksdale Kennedy, both of New Orleans, Mary Beth Kennedy, her husband, Jason Broome, and daughter, McKenzie Broome, of Warner Robins, Georgia, Catherine Nix Kennedy of New Orleans.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Reverend James Nix Morrison at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, at Live Oak Cemetery, 125 Church Avenue in Pass Christian, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Sisters, Servants of Mary, Ministers to the Sick - 5001 Perlita Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70122-1999.
