Myrtus Elaine Knobloch Reuter, age 94, of Gulfport, MS, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 in Gulfport.
Myrtus was born and reared in Gulfport, graduating from Gulfport High School in 1943. In 1944 she and best friend Doris Patricia Murphy Till joined the Cadet Nurse Corp and began training at Jefferson-Hillman Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating in 1947, Myrtus married Chalmers E. Reuter. With his job with the American Red Cross for 30 years, they lived in 5 different states and 3 foreign countries. Her free time was spent serving and collecting old keys. In later life her sewing hobby led to her becoming a “blue ribbon quilter.” She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Gulfport where she served in many capacities.
Myrtus was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Earl P. Knobloch; a loving step-mother, Katherine S. Knobloch; husband, Chalmers; daughter, Margaret; baby brother, Benedict; sister, Helen Legett; brother, Norman Knobloch; and sister-in-law, Beverly.
She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Bonnie; son, Earl; brother, Earl; sister, Gloria Bradley; granddaughter, Alisaun and husband, Mike; step-great-grandchildren, Allen & Abby Crenshaw; and nieces, nephews, friends in the “Seniors Quilters” group, Church family & friends.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 22nd at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport. Pastor Jeff Dukeman will officiate.
