Myrtle Valentine (Dubuisson) Mincher died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 98 at Broadmoor Nursing Facility at Creekside in The Woodlands, TX, on July 18, 2016. Myrtle was better known to friends and family as ""Polly,"" the nickname given to her by her father for being an avid communicator.
Polly was born on February 15, 1918 and was a long time resident of Long Beach, MS. She was preceded in her death by her husband, Joseph L. Mincher; her brothers, Clyde Dubuisson and wife Evelyn; Dr. Ray Dubuisson and wife Ida; and, her parents, Leonard H. Dubuisson and Minnie Briggs Dubuisson.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Jeane Knowles and Leel Knowles, Sr. of Florida; her step-grandchildren, Leel Knowles, Jr. and David Schaller; and Melissa Knowles of Florida; her nephews and nieces; Dr. Bob Dubuisson and Nancy Delgado of Florida; Donald Dubuisson of New York; Deborah Graham and Carl from Texas; Janet Williams and Phil from Tennessee; and Garnie Dubuisson of Long Beach; great nephews and nieces, Christopher Graham and Marlene and their son Caden; David Graham and Cynthia and their son Michael from Texas; Thomas Graham of Illinois; Eliot Williams from Tennessee; Kimberly Buchanan and Maxwell Buchanan of Long Beach; and Laura Keukelaar and Claudia Dubuisson of Florida and Allison Dubuisson of New York.
Polly was a graduate of Long Beach High School, Perkinston Jr. College, and the University of Southern Miss. After graduation, she began her career as a home economics teacher, and later went on to assist her mother at the Long Beach Post Office during WWII. She finished her business career by working for Travelers Insurance Agency in New Orleans. Polly then moved to Green Cove Springs, Florida after marrying her long-time friend Joseph Mincher. She and Joe later returned to her homestead in Long Beach to care for her parents. Prior to her medical placement at the Broadmoor while visiting in Texas, Polly resided at One Magnolia Place in Gulfport after leaving her family homestead in Long Beach, MS.
As a dedicated, life-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Long Beach, Polly was active in the OAKS, Bible study, prayer groups, and Sunday school. She was also very active in the Long Beach Historical Society in which she served in many leadership roles.
Polly was a wonderful source of information for all, whether it was something historical, a birthdate, phone number or address, or who may be in need of prayer. She will be lovingly remembered for her non-wavering faith in God, her informative Christmas letters, her love for travel, visiting with friends and family, her genuine love for socializing--playing cards and bunko, her wonderful talent for cooking, and her generosity in showing her love for others through her gifts of homemade crafts and goodies (cakes, cookies, afghans, ceramics, and paintings) to her many friends and family members.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016 from First United Methodist Church, 208 Pine Street, Long Beach. A visitation will be at 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29th at the church and 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th with the funeral service following at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery on 28th Street in Gulfport. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials in her name to the First United Methodist Church in Long Beach or the Long Beach Historical Society.
