Myrlin J. """"Big John"""" Mauffray, age 78 of Long Beach, MS died on Thursday, October 2, 2008 in Gulfport.
Born in Cuevas, MS, he was a lifelong resident of the Coast. He was a retired Teamster Union Truck Driver, and a Baptist in faith. Among his hobbies he enjoyed fishing and oystering.
Mr. Mauffray was preceded in death by his wife, Ona Mae Ladner Mauffray; his sons, Myrlin Mauffray, Jr. and Nelson Ladner; his parents Owen L. Mauffray and Luella Davis Mauffary; brothers, Clarence and Laverne; and his sisters, Nell Marie Makenzie, Delores Jackson and Thelma Varnado. He is survived by his children, R.J. Ladner (Alice) of Buna, TX, Kenneth Ladner of Saucier, Verlyn Mauffray (Debbie) of Pass Christian, Myrlin Mauffary (Wanda) of Lyman, Marianne Hatfield (Thomas) of Long Beach, Carolyn Mauffray of Pass Christian, Tony Mauffray (Susan) of Pass Christian; brother Louis Mauffray (Kitty) of Hattiesburg; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 6pm until 9pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Rd., Pass Christian. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 10:30a.m. at Divine Grace Baptist Church, Red Creek Road in Long Beach, where friends and family can visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Alphonse Malley Cemetery.
