Murl U. Hover, age 81, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 13, 2020 surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Hover was born in Laurel, MS, to George and Susie Inez Adams Ulmer. She grew up in the Sharon Community and attended William Carey where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She married Jimmy Hover on June 17, 1961, and moved to the coast. She started teaching at Lizana Elementary School in 1962 and taught there until she had to quit because of health reasons in 1976. She lived for her family and was the happiest when her house was the fullest. She had the green thumb of the south and never met a plant she couldn't love back to health and make flourish (even without meds). She had a passion for baking and cooking and spent years making wedding cakes and birthday cakes for family. She was famous for her gumbo and pecan pies! She shaped the next generation by keeping her grandchildren and great-grandchildren prior to them starting school. Her love for her husband and family was only surpassed by her love for Jesus her savior. She faced more trials in her life over the years than any of us could ever imagine, but through every single one, she gave all the glory to Jesus for seeing her through them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; George and Inez Ulmer.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James I. "Jimmy" Hover; Her daughter Bettye (David) Clark of Gulfport; sons, Luke (Sandra) Hover, Michael (Leisa) Hover of Saucier; son-in-love, Tony Karnes; daughter-in-love, Stacey Davidson; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Phillips of Gulfport, Michelle (Will) Fauquier of Covington, LA, Justin Clark, Morgan Clark, both of Gulfport, Bradlee (Paige) Hover of Murphreesboro, TN, Matthew (Megan) Hover of Summerdale, AL, and Holley (Wesley) Martin of Diamondhead, MS: nine great-grandchildren, Carson and Jackson Phillips, Evie and baby boy Fauquier, Jacob and Lily Hover, Lawson, Grayson, and Hudson Martin; one brother, Charles Ulmer of Colorado Springs, CO; three sisters, Dorothy Ulmer, Mary Collins, and Georgia Ballard all of Laurel, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Visitation will be held at Michael Memorial Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 17, from 10:00 to 11:00, followed by a celebration of her life at 11:00. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wiggins immediately after.
