MSgt. Willard Byrd (USAF Retired)

MSgt. Willard H. Byrd (USAF Retired), age 88, passed away on August 2, 2022 in Biloxi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Merle Byrd; brother, W.L. Byrd; and parents, Margret and Wessie Byrd.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Kraus (Steven) of Mandeville, LA, and Linda Ros (Hank) of Biloxi; four grandchildren, Kevin Kraus, David Kraus, Rachel Ros and Haley Martin; and his beloved cat Boots.

He was born in 1933 in Vicksburg, Mississippi and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956. He served in the Vietnam War and retired from the Air Force in 1972. His second career was in civil service as an Officer and NCO Club Manager. He also worked for Habitat for Humanity for 12 years.

His favorite activity was cooking and he enjoyed the Men’s breakfast at Parkway Baptist Church when his health permitted.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., with funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi, MS. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
