M.L. Richardson, Jr.

January 18, 1944 — March 22, 2022

Gulfport, MS

M.L. Richardson JR., age 78, of Gulfport, completed his life’s journey, March 22, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Lehman Richardson SR. and Hazel Ross Richardson. He is survived by his wife, Carol Bennett Richardson; his daughter, Angie Richardson Lesher, and son, Jeffrey Richardson-Caddy; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Peyton, and Ashton Lesher; his great grandson, Liam Lesher; and his sisters, Billy Sue Dye and Patricia Turjusen.

A graduate of USM, M.L. began the early part of his career teaching Mathematics at Harrison Central High School and Notre Dame High School. His passion for teaching and love for each student, encouraged him to climb the education ladder by becoming the assistant principal of Harrison Central High School. He then went on to become the principal of D’Iberville High School for fourteen years, where he respected participation in extra-curricular activities, promoted athletics, and all aspects of the school environment.  He also respected and supported his teachers and staff so much that he would cook a meal for them on teacher workdays to show his appreciation.

His greatest joy in life was taking care of others, with his family always coming first. He was selfless, always doing for others. With a wonderful attitude, he made the best of any situation.  He loved cooking and took great pleasure in preparing meals, often carrying meals to others, and inviting others to eat with his family. Stocking up on shrimp or making gumbo would make him smile.  Special occasions always called for his cooking.

M. L. loved a variety of things.  He loved Christmas and enjoyed decorating multiple trees with Ashton--even with some unconventional and special designs. He was happy to have visitors stop by to enjoy the holidays with his family.  It was fun to watch the gifts and surprises that he often planned for the family.  As an expert with maps and navigation, he never had difficulty finding his way in any city, open road, or rural area.

He loved being a caregiver and nurturer for his parents, his wife, his children, and grandchildren.  Using his roofing and carpenter skills--free gratis--for family, friends, and those in need after devastating weather events, he also did repairs for local churches and organizations.  He was in charge of the cemetery at Coalville Methodist Church, supervising its upkeep and maintaining the records. He knew the history of every grave.   He did this as a service for the church and the community for many years. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Coalville United Methodist Church, 12298 Shorecrest Road, Biloxi, MS 39532 Friday, March 25, 2022 from 10:am until funeral service at 12:00pm.  A burial will follow at Coalville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
