Stan “Pappaw” was a long-time resident of Gulfport, Ms. He grew up in Nanih Waiya Ms. where he met and married his wife of 63 years Mary. He served in the United States Air Force and they traveled numerous assignments gathering children as they travelled, the last born in Hawaii before returning stateside where they settled in Gulfport and retired after 21 years of service. Worked Civil service at Keesler AFB until retirement. While in Gulfport, “Stan/Pappaw” served on the Gulfport School Board and President for many of those years. He loved his family, his Lord, and his country. He and wife Mary were active in Mississippi City United Methodist Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason and Shriner.
His uncanny ability to put any baby to sleep while lying on his chest, made him the envy of his children and friends (His Son’s conspired to Patent the “Pappaw Belly”). The Nowell house was a place where all his family, children and their friends gathered almost everyday to eat and enjoy “words of wisdom” and many shrimp boils, some even challenged him to shrimp eating contest, none prevailed. All that gathered were welcomed as family (and treated as family if they misbehaved!). The lines blurred between family and friends with him, he raised many of our friends as his own. He loved beyond boundaries. Sunday dinners will never be the same. He will be missed by so many.
I love you Dad!
