Milton was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach for the past 32 years and he volunteered his time whenever needed. When his girls were small, he also volunteered and coached them in little league. Milton was known for putting up Christmas lights in their yard and would begin the day after Thanksgiving displaying more than 50,000 lights. It was said that the lights could be seen from the International Space Station! One year, he was awarded the “Best Shimmiest Lights in Town” in town, Long Beach best lights awards
He was a member of the MisFits Car Club and he dearly loved all of the cruise-ins with his club and other cruise-ins along the coast and he was passionate about Cruisin’ the Coast since the beginning 25 years ago. He was an avid NASCAR enthusiast! When Frances first met Milton, she knew nothing about NASCAR but she soon found out that he loved it immensely. So, for her wedding gift to him, she gave him tickets to the Talladega race and they used the tickets on their honeymoon.
Milton was a volunteer with the Confined Space Squad with Mississippi Power Company and received numerous Safety Awards over his 30-year career with the power company. Milton was a 30-year member and most recently the Financial Secretary with IBEW Local 1211. His career at the power company was spent at Plant Watson where he was a Heavy Equipment Operator and a Coal Equipment Operator, which he referred to as C.E.O.
