Mikel Dempsey Hillman

Mikel Dempsey Hillman, born on September 24, 1947 in Neely, Mississippi passed away on May 7, 2023 in Mobile, Alabama. He was a beloved husband to his wife Carolin Ann Hillman and a cherished father to his children Loria Toomey (Larry), Paula Meinhardt (Andy), Michelle Williams (Jeremy), Bryan Hillman, Robert Brooks (Tosha), and Angie Dedeaux.

His legacy will live on through his numerous grandchildren: Brett Toomey, Drew Meinhardt, Ashlee Toomey, BJ (Coon) Griggers, Charles Williams, Brayden "Bull" Griggers, Taylor Hillman, Aubree Hillman, Kade "Bear" Hillman, Elizabeth "Beth" Dedeaux, Kamree Grey, Raven Fountain, Raelyn Brooks and Raegan Brooks as well as his great-grandchildren: J.B. Toomey, Skyler Toomey, Jayden Neal Reed, Kylan Williams and Kambrie Fountain. Mikel also leaves behind his surviving siblings: Danny Ray Hillman, Bobby Jean Cowart, Sheila Ann West, Donna Newby and Wanda Knots.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hulan Dempsey Hillman and mother, Addie Bell Hillman, along with step-mother, Nina May Hillman; and also his siblings, Kelly Dale Hillman, Joan Jordan, Pam Sylvester and Debra Green; his nephew, Kelley Lyn Hillman; and his 2^nd parents, Dixie and Harry Dixon.

In terms of education Mikel earned practical industry experience working in the Oil Field from the time he was 16 years old until he retired earlier in 2002.

Mikel's proudest accomplishments included being a member of Fountain of Life Tabernacle in Lyman for most of his life. He found solace in fishing throughout most of his adult years setting hooks out for trot lines as well as deer hunting and gardening in earlier years.

Family and friends are invited to visit Riemann Family Funeral Home - Gulfport located at 11280 Three Rivers Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503 if they wish to pay their respects for Mikel during the visitation held on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will commence at the funeral home following the visitation at 3:00 p.m. Additional services will include a graveside service taking place at Finley Cemetery in Gulfport.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Russell Hulbert, with music provided by Ann Holiday. Eulogies will be shared by B.J. and Brayden Griggers and Jamie Schebor. Pallbearers will be Heath Williams, Nick Williams, B.J. Griggers, Brayden Griggers, Charles Ezra Williams and Jayden Neal Reed.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Dwayne Loper, Mike Hickman, Drew Meinhardt and Larry Toomey.

Mikel Dempsey Hillman lingers only in our memories now, but he will never be forgotten in the hearts and minds of those who had been touched by his generosity, kindness, and love throughout his long life.
