Michael Washum

Michael Wayne Washum passed away unexpectedly on 24 April 2019 and departed this life in Ocean Springs, MS.  Michael affectionately known as Mike was born in Cincinatti, OH, on 13 December 1952 and graduated high school in Ohio.  After graduating high school, he joined the US Navy at age 17 and retired with a distinguished service record of 20 years.  During his time in the service he rose to the rank of E6 and earned the following medals:  National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Second Good Conduct Award, Meritorious Unite Commendation, Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.  Following his military career, Mike was in the Civil service from 2000-2016.  He loved to party with friends, and he collected dishes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Joyce Washum, and his sisters, Debbie and Carol Washum.
While in the service, Mike met his wife, Myrna Companero, who survives him.  Additional survivors include their children, Marie Rose Ladbioray, Charito C. (Jerry) Hinton, Mathew (Andrea) Downs, Michael A. (Sofia) Washum, Christopher M. (Erica) Washum, Jason Washum, Joshua Washum, Rebecca G. (Jason) Perugia, and Michelle M. Washum; his siblings, Mary McGinnins, Mark Washum and William Washum; and his grandchildren, Kassandra Georges, Seraphim E. Carey, Kaben Carey, Zander C. Downs, Cade R. Hinton, Jayden Washum and Sayana Washum.
Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 1:30 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. at the corner of Washington Ave. We will then process to Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave., Biloxi, MS 39531, for a 2:30 PM graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church of Windsor Park, Ocean Springs.
