Michael ‘Mick’ James Piszczek, our beloved brother, son, husband, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2023, at the age of 28 years old. Michael was born to Carol and Jerry Piszczek on June 20, 1995, in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Hutchinson Community College with a degree in Fire Science. He eventually furthered his education to be more patient-centered by obtaining his Paramedic Certification from Johnson County Community College.
While living in Hutchinson, Michael met his future wife, Catherine Evenson, falling for her compassionate and caring heart. He loved her more than anything else in the world. The two eloped in an October 2021 wedding along the beautiful coast of California off Highway 1. After serving as a paramedic for Johnson and Franklin Counties for several years, Michael shifted gears to focus on his true passion, all things bicycle related. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing the 100-mile ‘Unbound’ bike ride in the Flint Hills of Kansas.
He spent his days working as a bicycle technician in Kansas City, ultimately inspiring Carol and Jerry to become avid bikers themselves. He always ensured his family members' bikes were maintained, and each bike properly fitted to their rider. To describe Michael’s personality in a few sentences is a difficult task. All those who knew Michael knew that he was truly one of a kind. He continuously offered comedic relief, entertaining everyone around him with his witty sense of humor and contagious laugh.
He valued his relationship with his friends and family more than any material object. Above all, Michael had an innate drive for helping others, always putting their needs above his own. Michael will be missed dearly by all those who knew him. One thing we know for certain is that his adventurous, free-spirited soul will continue to inspire us to live our lives in the same manner. Michael is survived by his wife Catherine Evenson, parents Jerry and Carol; siblings Christopher Piszczek (Heidi), Jaclyn Camarata (Chris), Jonathan Piszczek, and Allison Piszczek; niece, Lina Camarata, and nephews, Bennett and Brooks Piszczek. An intimate family service will be held on Friday evening at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Andover Augusta Rail to Trail Initiative.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Waveland, is serving the family.
