With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Houston, a member of the Hinds County community, who departed this world on April 1, 2024. Born on January 22, 1960, in Hinds County, Mike's journey was one of kindness, creativity and struggle.
From a young age, Mike's artistic spirit shone brightly. With skillful hands and a vivid imagination, he crafted many masterpieces that he shared with the people around him. His love for art was matched only by his passion for nature. Amidst the embrace of the outdoors, Mike found solace in tending to his garden and fishing. Animals held a special place in Mike's heart, and his four loyal canine companions were
more than pets—they were cherished family members, offering unwavering companionship and unconditional love.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Jack Houston MD; grandmother, Renthia Dean; and grandparents, Grover & Ida Houston. He is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Von & Peggy Brister; his children, Jessica Hopkins & husband Derek, Sheela Houston, and Michael "M.J." Houston & wife Vanessa; his brother, Eagle Houston Sr.; six adoring grandchildren; a beloved niece, Ashley Houston-McCambridge and nephew, Eagle Houston Jr.
Though Mike's physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the memories he shared and the lives he touched. His smile, light, and creativity will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
