Michael D. Matthiesen of Diamondhead, Mississippi, formerly of Petersburg, Illinois passed away Thursday September 10, 2015 at Highland Hospital Packcayne, Mississippi.
Michael (Mike) was born August 8, 1956 in Springfield, Illinois as the first child of Dianne and Walter Matthiesen, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Matthiesen was a graduate of Oklahoma Farrier College and had an established farrier career for over forty years. In addition, Mr. Matthiesen had many hobbies, including fishing and motorcycle excursions. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Matthiesen was a dedicated volunteer for the Gates to Success Therapeutic Horsemanship Center, a 501 (c) 3 foundation.
Mr. Matthiesen is survived by his wife of 37 years, Penny Lynn (Bell) Matthiesen; two daughters: Lindsay M. Matthiesen, Casey J. Matthiesen of Petersburg, Illinois; six grandchildren, Mason, Hayden, Gretchen, Lane, Parker and MaKinley; and two brothers: Patrick (Michael Whipple) Matthiesen of Diamondhead, Mississippi and , Bob Matthiesen (Crystal) of Chatham, Illinois.
Arrangements have been made for cremation. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date.
