Michael John Jelinski, 49, of Gulfport, MS died Sunday, July 26, 2009.
He was born November 23, 1959 in Dover, DE. He settled on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi in 1976. Michael graduated from DaÌââ¢Iberville High School and immediately honored his country by joining the United States Air Force, serving six years. He later obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College and continued his secondary education studies at the University of Southern Mississippi at Gulf Park and William Carey College in Gulfport.
Michael became a skilled craftsman, working as a pipefitter and a welder, most recently at Gulf Ship in Gulfport, MS. He was recognized by the American Red Cross for his selfless volunteerism in serving as a shelter director during Hurricane Katrina.
He is survived by his parents, John J. and Patricia M. Jelinski of Maryville, TN, his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Ken Longmire of Atlanta, GA, his niece Kayla Longmire and his nephew John Kenna Longmire II, both of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his aunt JoAnn Walker and her companion, Frank Battaile of Biloxi, and his cousin, Sandy Walker Levi and her husband, Dempsey of Ocean Springs. Additionally, he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who reside across the United States.
His family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all who have expressed their sympathy and condolences.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Biloxi National Cemetery.
