Michael "Mike" Duane Heise, Sr. died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 22, 2019 after beating kidney cancer and undergoing kidney dialysis for over eight years. On December 30th he would have celebrated 70 years of living. Mike was preceded in death by his brother, David Heise.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lucy Cannette Heise; and three children, Mike Heise, Jr. (Angela), Melissa (Jack Feigel) and Jon E. Heise (Kelly Hill); step-children, Gina & Jay Langlinais; his oldest friends, Michelle Fasolino, Diane Baygents, & Mike Mixon; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother; 3 sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Known as the "Snake man" because at an early age he was stricken with asthma, but found he could have reptiles and amphibians but not furry pets. Later shortening the nickname to "Snake", many loved him for his wild storytelling and his love for the outdoors. Mike was well read in many things, but Science was a way of life. National Geographic books were a staple in the mail monthly, and later when it became a cable channel, it was viewed almost nearly as much as he watched ALABAMA & SAINTS football. Mike loved a barbecue with family and "half the hill" there; the more the merrier. Even if he couldn't afford it, he would feed everyone, always making everyone feel welcome. As an Army brat he transferred all over, but as an adult, Mike finally settled to the Mississippi coast employed at Delchamps and later at Dupont, working to provide adventures for his three kids. Many of the adventures were simply camping on the creek or at Paul B Johnson State Park. Mike also made several snake trips to Texas and Mexico, and he loved to float the creek looking for turtles and snakes. He will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.
In lieu of fresh cut flowers, the family request a living plant or a donation to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org
