Michael Coyne

March 8, 1933 — April 11, 2014

Michael Joseph Coyne, age 81, of Biloxi, passed away peacefully with his wife by his bedside on April 11, 2014 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Chicago on March 8, 1933 to Michael Coyne and Beatrice Corcoran Coyne, immigrants from County Mayo, Ireland.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Minerva Coyne of Biloxi; his children, Dr. M. Kevin Coyne (Victoria), Raul Sanchez, , Kathryn Coyne (Michael Matalone), and Anna Oakley (James); his siblings, Peter Coyne (Patricia), Mary Johnson, and Bernice Balaja; his grandchildren, Eric, Sammy, and Hannah Hines, Brandon Coyne and Meghan May Ryan, and James and William Oakley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Korean War. He retired as General Manager of the Art Design and Engraving Division of American National Can, Chicago, IL where he worked for thirty eight years.
After their retirement, Mike and Minerva divided their time between their home in Biloxi in the winter and their home in Hazelhurst, WI in the summer. He was an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast both on the Gulf Coast and on the Wisconsin lakes. He enjoyed sailing in Lake Michigan while living in Chicago.
His hobby was to paint, carve, build, and generally creating beautiful things with his hands.
Mike and Minerva loved to travel and his job with an international company provided the opportunity for them to travel to Europe, Latin America, and throughout the United States. He enjoyed exploring new places.
He was a faithful Roman Catholic and member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi and Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, WI. An early riser, he attended daily 6:20 AM Mass at Fatima and 7:00 AM Sunday Mass at Nativity Cathedral in Biloxi, where he was an occasional usher.
He was a rather reserved man, but kindhearted, gen-erous, and loyal. He will be greatly missed.
