Michael David Beyerstedt

Michael David Beyerstedt, age 61, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

Michael was born on September 1, 1962, in Evansville, Indiana, to James "Jim" Beyerstedt and Elaine Morrison. He grew up in a close-knit family and developed a strong sense of loyalty and dedication to those he encountered. After high school, he joined the Marines, where he served for four years. Michael pursued a successful career as a firefighter, where he rose through the ranks of the Jackson Fire Department  in Jackson, MI, and eventually earned the title of Fire Chief. He retired from the Jackson Fire Department in 2011. That same year, he and Kelly moved to Gulfport, MS, as he took the reins as Fire Chief of the Gulfport Fire Department. When he finally stepped away from a long and distinguished career in public service, he continued teaching classes at Southern Columbia University while taking a position as director of Windance Country Club in the Gulfport area.

Because of Michael's love for his community, he was involved in numerous organizations. Outside of his professional life, Michael was a devoted man of faith and a true family man. He is survived by the love of his life, Kelly Lea Debose Beyerstedt, with whom he shared 39 years full of blessings; as well as his mother, Elaine; two sons, Adam and Andrew; their wives, Jennifer and Callie; 1 sister, Anne, five grandchildren, Audrey, Hunter, Wyatt, Luke and Henry, and numerous other relatives.   Michael was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always encouraging them and showing them love.

Michael will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, church family, and community. He will also be long remembered for his distinguished career in the fire services, his passion for golf, his warm and welcoming personality, as well as his warm sense of humor. He had a way of making everyone around him feel at ease and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire those who knew him. May he rest in peace.

A funeral service will be held for Michael on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 10:00 am -12:00 pm with the service starting at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Folds of Honor, The Salvation Army, and Make a Wish in Michael’s memory.
