Merlyn Schaeffer Castiglia, 74, of Long Beach, passed away after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was happiest in the kitchen cooking for family and friends. Her hobbies included traveling, swimming, gardening, and painting. She loved and was devoted to her cats.
She worked at the Long Beach Senior Citizen's Center as an art instructor, owned and operated Magnolia Catering, and she worked as a chef on supply boats in the Oil and Gas Industry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Marguerite Schaeffer; sister, Margie Cuevas; and nephew, Bryan Wilson.
She is survived by her children, Joey Castiglia, Alvin Castiglia, and Donna Castiglia Hudson; her former husband, Joseph Castiglia; her sister, Shirley Wilson; and nieces, nephews, and many close family and friends.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commisssion Rd, Long Beach. The visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time for family and friends. Interment will follow at Evergreen Gardens Cemetery, Gulfport.
