Merle Burman, 96, of Long Beach, MS passed away on October 3, 2024 at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA. He was born on August 20, 1928 in Morrison, IL to the late Tony & Addie Burman. Merle is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Charlene Burman; and brothers, Irv Burman and Ken Burman.
Merle’s family moved from Morrison, IL to Kenosha, WI when he was 15 years old. He then lived in the Kenosha area until 1999. In 1946, Merle joined the United States Army Air Corps. He proudly served for three years. Later, he got called up and joined the United States Air Force, and got out in 1951. Merle met Charlene while living in Wisconsin, and they were married October 1, 1950. After the military Merle and his family settled in Wisconsin for 48 years. Merle worked for Anaconda Brass which later became American Brass until his retirement in 1990. After his retirement, he moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1999.
Merle was a hard working and devoted person. He loved to read and especially was a history buff. He always loved working on projects around the house. Merle was a member of First Methodist Church of Long Beach. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to so many. His hard work and legacy lives on in all of us, and will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Merle is survived by his loving children, Stephen (Nan) Burman, and Debra (Allen) Palmer; grandchildren, Emily (Alex) Barnes, Matthew Palmer, Jacob (Rachel) Palmer, and Rachel (Chad) Welch; great grandchildren, Simon, George and Linus Barnes, Benjamin and Abigail Palmer, Emma Kay and Hannah Welch; brothers, Ed (Lynda) Burman, and Harv Burman. Merle also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the First Methodist Church of Long Beach (208 Pine St). A light reception and fellowship will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Merle’s memory may be made to Tunnels to Tower or to the First Methodist Church.
