Menton John Matthews

Menton John Matthews, Jr., age 71, of Diamondhead, died Friday, March 21, 2014. He was born in McComb, MS on July 14, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Menton Matthews, Sr. and Marie Matthews and his sister, Janice Reed. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Matthews and his children, Angela Nobert (Doug), Heidi Moore (Joey), Menton Matthews III (Sarah), Kim Patterson (Jim), Sherri Blount, Paige Blount and Dwayne Bates. He was affectionately known as John John and PaPaw to his 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Menton was a graduate of the University of Southern Miss. He served in the U. S. Air Force. He coached football at McComb HS for 13 years and was employed by MS Public Utilities.
He was an avid golfer that loved being on the course with his friends. He was happiest when spending time with his wife of 33 years and his family.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Ginger Rogers, Becky and the entire oncology staff at the VA Medical Hospital for their love and compassionate care throughout Menton's courageous fight.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior on Monday, March 24 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian (www.riemannfamily.com).
