Melva Sawyer

Melva E. Lehue Sawyer, age 90, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Seashore Highlands in Gulfport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grandy E. Sawyer; her parents, Lawson and Elneda Lehue; her son, Michael E. Sawyer; and by her 4 siblings, Keithel Sawyer, Leman Sawyer, Oddie Sawyer and Janis Stenson.

Mrs. Sawyer is survived by her daughter, Nancy Sawyer Perkins and her husband, James Perkins of Gulfport; 3 grandchildren, Audra L. Taliaferro, Carolyn Sawyer Graham and Brian E. Sawyer; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of North Carolina and resided in Arcadia, Florida for the past 40 plus years, until moving to Gulfport this past year.  She was a retired nurse from Lee County Hospital and Desoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia.

She was very active in the DAV, she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and she served on the Board of Supervisors in Arcadia.
