Max Lynwood Yates, age 90, resident of Gulfport, Mississippi went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Max was born on June 29, 1933 in Mobile, Alabama to William and Ruby Kittrell Yates.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Neatie Pearl Yates; his parents; and siblings; Sybil, Mavis, Myra, William (Tud), Fred, Hall, and Harley (Chico).
Papa Max is survived by his wife, Billie Yates; his devoted son, Joseph (Joy) Yates. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Yates, Justin Yates (Carrie), Matthew Yates (Mary), Amanda Bunnell (Brandon) and Madison Yates; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, Army buddies; and the "guys" at the Whataburger who will also miss him.
Max retired from the United States Army at the rank of Lt. Colonel after 34 years of service to include active duty Army, Army National Guard, and Army Federal Reserve. He also worked for 38 years as a Hydrologic Technician with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Dad was a simple, selfless man who loved God, his family, and his country beyond measure. He never asked for anything and earned everything he had.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
