Max Leo Miller, age 83, of Gulfport, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 29.
He was born in Wellman, IA on July 7, 1924. He was the son of the late Simon J and Lydia Bender Miller. He was the loving and devoted husband to Mary Hunsberger Miller formerly of Doylestown, PA. He was the caring father of a half-dozen children: Carol Miller (Allan Kauffman) of Goshen, IN; Steve (Dot) Miller and Gary (Red Dot) Miller both of Gulfport; Judi Miller (Paul White) of Broadway, VA; Jan (Ron) Byers of Sarasota, FL and Scott (Suzanne) Miller of Gulfport. He loved his 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Nicolas and Lucas Kauffman; Brice Miller; Kristie Miller; Michael (Cindy) Schaefer; Barbara (David) LaBrake; Samantha (Cecil, Jr.) Borzik; Maddie and Zoe White; Andrew and Emily Miller; Kristina and Heather Angus; and Nikki Borzik. He was the brother of Ralph (Sadie) Miller, Gulfport; Claude Miller, Kenner, LA; Ruth (Howard) Stroup, Goshen, IN; Carl (Elsie) Miller and Oren (Dorothy) Miller both of Gulfport; and Jane (Robert) Thomas, Marion, SD.
Max was a graduate of Lyman High School. He completed two years of college at Goshen College, Goshen, IN where he met his future bride, Mary. Max and Mary married in Doylestown, PA on November 5, 1949. They later moved to Gulfport where they made their home. Max served in Civilian Public Service for years where he served in California, South Africa and Greece. He made his living as a guernsey dairy farmer for decades. He worked for the Harrison County Dairyman's Association. He later worked and retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Max was a Past President of Harrison County Farm Bureau, and he served as a Soil Conservation
Commissioner. Max was an avid organic gardener and farmer. He also loved to fish. Max was a very faithful member of the Gulfhaven Mennonite Church, where he served his Heavenly Father for many decades.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S Gulf Coast Funeral Home on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport.
On Thursday, August 2, 2007, there will be a 10:30 a.m. funeral service at Gulf Haven Mennonite Church with interment following at the church cemetery.
