Mattie Lou Shannon Vaughan, age 96, of Athens, AL, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in Biloxi, MS.
Mrs. Vaughan was preceded in death by her husband James Jackson Vaughan; two brothers, Robert and Cecil Shannon; three sisters, Evena Ogden, Angela Wright, and Juanita Reese; and her parents, George Erskine Shannon and Della Lucretia Davenport Shannon.
She is survived by her children: Dorothy Imogene Belue of Newport, MI, and Lucretia V. Richardson of Biloxi, MS; five grandchildren, Glenda Cecil of Detroit, MI, Charles E. Vaughn of Athens, AL, Robert V. Richardson of Biloxi, MS, Cynthia Zajac of Newport, MI and Juanna Brown of Biloxi, MS; eleven great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Cartwright Church of Christ, 23180 AL Highway 99, Elkmont, AL 35620.
Mrs. Vaughan was sent from Riemann Family Funeral Home, Beauvoir Road, Biloxi to McConnell Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama for services. Visitation will be Monday, January 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, all at McConnell Funeral Home, 1200 E. Forrest Street, Athens, Alabama.
