Mattie Stevens

Mrs. Mattie H. Stevens, age 90, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010.
She was born in Gulfport to James and Corrine Hampton on July 4, 1919 and was a lifelong resident of Gulfport. She was a homemaker and salesperson for Stanley Home Products. She was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church where she very active. Mrs. Stevens was a member of the choir, the JOY Group, and the Inspiration. She was a Sunday School teacher, and served on many church committees. She was also the epitomy of a true Southern lady in elegance and style, and was always graceful and loving.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Stevens; her parents; brother, William Louie Hampton; sister, Evelyn Inez Ives.
She is survived by her son, Craig Stevens of Gulfport; stepdaughters, Carol Demarre Wilkes of Jacksonville, FL, and Judi Orbus of Reseda, CA; and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010, at Grace Memorial Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Friends may visit with the family at the church two hours prior to services.
Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be given to the General Fund at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 2301 23rd Ave., Gulfport, MS 39501.
