Matthias Pisut III, 65, of Gulfport, MS passed away on August 2, 2012 at his home in Gulfport, MS where he had resided for 17 years. He is preceded in death by his father, Matthias Pisut II.
Born in Joliet, IL on July 12, 1947 to Matt and Sonia (Bielec) Pisut of Lockport, IL; ""Sonny"" was the oldest of 6. Growing up in in Lockport, his work ethic began early through a paper route at the Joliet Herald News and hitchhiking to caddy at Big Run Golf Course. After graduating from Lockport Central High School, he worked as a switchman at EJ & E in Joliet, IL and there met his love in 1969, Judy Pisut; married on March 6, 1971 in Lockport, IL. He obtained his BA from Northern Illinois University and while working towards his MBA, was drafted into the Air Force and assigned to Okinawa with Judy. He completed his MBA from Central Missouri State and served his country, in the Air Force, for 28 years retiring Lt. Col in 2006.
In addition to family and career, Matt consistently served the many Catholic parishes across his ten Air Force assignments as lector and Eucharistic minister; most recently receiving the Lumen Christi Award and serving as President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In life, Matt was an avid golfer, bowler and downhill skier; he loved to have a good time listening to blues in Chicago. His most valued possessions were not earthly or material but love for his family, his accomplishment on the golf course (3 hole-in-ones, numerous trophies), his achievements from his Air Force career and the opportunity to give back to his parish and community through his service in the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his mother, Sonia Pisut; wife, Judy Pisut; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Patrick Seals; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Kathy Pisut; brothers, Bob and Billy Pisut; sisters, Denise Connor, Marie Pisut and Susan VanMeter; granddaughters, Keely Seals and Gwyneth Pisut; grandson, Matthias Pisut V.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 6, 2012, at 12'Noon at St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2414 17th St, Gulfport, MS 39501.
