Matthew "Matt" Joseph Konscak, Jr. was born June 3, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio to his parents Matthew and Eleanore Konscak. He lived a fulfilling life dedicated to his Lord, family, community, and career. Matt passed away on October 16, 2023, in Gulfport, MS, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Matt had an impressive work history. He worked at C.E. Natco for 16 years, Avondale for 4 years, and the Seabee Base for 24 years. His dedication and commitment to his profession were evident throughout his long employment.
In addition to his successful career, Matt served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an integral part of the combat effort and contributed significantly to defending his country. Matt's military service exemplified his bravery and selflessness in protecting the freedoms we hold dear.
Outside of work and military service, Matt had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He took great pleasure in working in his shed, where he would spend hours crafting and creating. Matt also had a passion for helping others and always looked forward to lending a helping hand to those in need. He and his wife Linda found joy in watching their daughters and grandchildren play sports and were their biggest supporter on the sidelines. Additionally, he was an avid fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves and cheered them on with unwavering loyalty.
Among Matt's proudest accomplishments were receiving the Bronze Star Combat Medal for his exceptional service during combat operations. He also received a National Award from the U.S Navy for his dedication and commitment. Furthermore, he qualified as a U.S. Government Welding Inspector, a testament to his skills and expertise.
Matt leaves behind many loved ones who will cherish fond memories of him forever. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Bennett; his daughters, Michelle Konscak of Woolmarket and Carrie West (Boyd) of Woolmarket; his sister, Kathy Mackay of North Olmsted, OH; his brother, Alan Konscak of West Lake, OH; and his grandchildren, Lauren Childres, Caleb West, Canaan West, Caden West, and Kieleigh West.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Eleanor Konscak, his sister Rose Punchmeyer, his in-laws Pete and Merna Bennett, his sister-in-law Regina Bennett, and his special uncle Phil Konscak. Their memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved them.
To honor Matt's life and pay tribute to the impact he made on those around him, visitation will be held at the Riemann Family Funeral Home in Gulfport on October 19, 2023. The visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the visitation, a Funeral Service will be held at the same location from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM. Matt's final resting place will be at Coalville Cemetery in Biloxi. The Interment ceremony will take place from 12:15 PM to 12:30 PM on October 19, 2023.
Matt's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, dedication, and unwavering support touched the lives of many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and strength. As we say our final goodbyes to Matt, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and carry on his spirit of compassion and service.
