Mary Ann (McGinnis) Van Winkle of Long Beach, Mississippi was called home to be with Jesus on March 11, 2021. She was born on August 28,1933 to Harvey Amile McGinnis, Sr. and Emma Marie (Schraml) McGinnis, in Kansas City, Kansas. She was the 4th of five children and graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1951.
After graduation, she married her true love, Stanley Karl Van Winkle in Biloxi, Mississippi, and they had six children. Left to cherish her memory are children Dr. Michael (Lynda) Van Winkle, Patricia Van Winkle, Dr. Traci (Kyle) Solt, and Cpt. Kevin (Nusin) Van Winkle; as well as grandchildren, Charlene Flynn, Blake Van Winkle, Derek Van Winkle, David Solt, Jack McCabe, Katharine McCabe, Arden Van Winkle; and 5 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Harvey McGinnis Jr., Eddie McGinnis; sister, Margaret McGinnis; son, Stephen Van Winkle; daughter, CPO Karla McCabe; and grandson, Patrick Van Winkle.
Mrs. Van Winkle had a zest for life and an infectious spirit that made everyone who encountered her smile and laugh. She has been described by family, friends, and neighbors as being sweet and sassy with a generous spirit. She was someone who made everyone feel comfortable. She had a big personality, BUNCO and BINGO were always more exciting when she was in attendance. Her passion for sewing and crocheting serve as a metaphor for her life as she stitched and crocheted her love in people's lives. The memories from her will be permanently stitched into the souls she encountered. She left a "made by Mary Ann" tag.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, Mississippi, with a visitation from 9:15 AM until the mass. Private burial services will be at the Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Covid guidelines will be enforced including masks, handwashing, and social distancing.
