Mary Joyce Skinner passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the age of 90. Mary Joyce was born in Louisiana but lived most of her life on the Coast in Mississippi. She and her husband Raymond built their home together in Gulfport where she resided until her death. Mary Joyce was retired after 34 years of service with South Central Bell.
Mary Joyce had a passion for all things beautiful and enjoyed a second career designing and creating costumes for various Mardi Gras Krewes in the Gulfport-Biloxi area. She was the initial incorporator of the Krewe of Athena, she was a founding officer for the Krewe of Hera and was a member of the Krewe of Bilikins. Mary Joyce was also a member of the Phi Sigma Alpha sorority and a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and always created a beautiful display in her home at Christmas time.
Mary Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Skinner; her parents, Odette, and George Landry; sisters, Betha Sadowski and Vivian Foster; her brother, Carroll Landry. She is survived by her son, Raymond J. Skinner, Jr. of Saucier; two grandchildren, James Skinner and Rachel (Gary) Gausmann of Robertsdale, Alabama.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.
Friends may visit at 10:00 a.m., 1 hour prior to service.
