Mary Lynn Searles, resident of Long Beach, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010. She will be at home in Heaven, as she certainly was an angel here on earth.
Mary Lynn was born on July 29, 1949, to Elizabeth Davis Alford and John Warren Alford in McComb, MS. She graduated from Gulfport High School with the Class of 1967, received her Bachelor degree from the Mississippi University for Women in 1971, and her Master's Degree in Special Education from USM-Gulf Park. Mary LynnaÌââ¢s love for children led her to become a beloved teacher of Long Beach High School.
Mary Lynn was the consummate gardener. If she was not in her garden, she could be found at school working with her students. The students at school considered Mary Lynn to be more than just a teacher, she was a mentor, role model, counselor and care giver. Her responsibility as the Junior Class Sponsor was to organize the Senior Prom. These elegant and sophisticated events will always be remembered as her legacy to Long Beach High School.
She was forever putting the needs of others before her own. If someone else drew the short stick, Mary Lynn would take it. She will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered by all her students, family, and friends.
Mary Lynn is survived by her sister Jeanette Guel (Mike) of Gulfport; nephews Michael and Jonathan Guel of Gulfport; and her step-children, John Searles and Rhonda Searles, both of Long Beach.
