Mary Virginia Reynolds, age 97, went to her home in Heaven on November 17, 2018.
Mary Virginia was born in Hopkinsville, KY and moved to Birmingham, AL when she was four years old. She graduated from Woodlawn High School and attended Howard College, now Samford University, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. In March of 1942, Mary Virginia married James Reynolds and moved to Moultrie, GA where James was stationed at Spence Air Base. She was able to accompany James to Albuquerque until he shipped to the Pacific Theater. After World War II ended, Mary Virginia and James made their home in Birmingham.
Mary Virginia was always glad to help in any way that she could with her daughter's school and church activities. She was a Girl Scout leader, a school room mother, a Sunday School leader, and a frequent chaperone. She was a very active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Birmingham. She served a term on the Vestry, arranged flowers, and participated in her circle at Trinity. Mary Virginia belonged to various women's clubs. She especially enjoyed being a member of the Celestine Literary Club for 60 years. In 2012, she moved to the Gulf Coast to be near her daughter, Ann. She enjoyed her home and family, gardening, playing bridge, needlework, reading and Auburn Football.
Mary Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Anna Mary Gregory; and her husband of 61 years, James Reynolds. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Burger of Pass Christian, MS.
A funeral service will be at 11 am on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pass Christian. Friends may visit from 10 - 11 am in the church. Interment will be on Monday, November 26, 2018, in Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church or Auburn University.
