Mary Alice Glinsey Reed, of Gulfport, passed away on June 6, 2018.
Mary was a native of Coahoma County and a longtime resident of Gulfport. She was a graduate of Delta State University in Cleveland, MS where she received a Bachelor Degree in Library Science and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Glinsey and Lettie Glinsey (Bullins); and 4 sisters, Mary Hemphill, Gertha Hicks, Bertha Bunch, and Cora Fleming.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Hersey Reed, Jr., of Gulfport; her 5 children, Lettie Buckhalter of Gulfport, Joyce Yurcaba of Queen Creek, AZ, Sheila Boone of Gulfport, Diana Johnson of Houston, TX, and Jan Hawkins (Dennis) of Des Moines; her sister, Vellette Epson of Olive Branch, MS; her 17 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; her special niece Christine Black; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved reading, writing, and shopping. She retired as a librarian for both public and various schools, and loved working with children. She was a librarian at West Wortham Elementary School and retired after many years. She accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Bell Grove Baptist Church, Clarksdale, MS, for 15 years; a member of Little Rock Baptist Church, Gulfport, for 7 years; and is currently a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Gulfport.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, with a visitation for family and friends from 9:30 AM until the service. A graveside service will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
