Mary Virginia Nix

December 31, 1935 — April 5, 2008

Mary Virginia Nix, 72 of Long Beach, passed away quietly with her loving family at her side at Oschner's Hospital in New Orleans, LA on April 5, 2008. She had fought a valiant battle with diabetes and heart disease for many years.
She was born in Bascom, FL on December 31, 1935. She grew up in the small town of Chattahoochee, FL and graduated from Chatthoochee High School in 1954. She attended Florida State University and Lively Business School in Tallahassee, FL. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper and retired from the Long Beach school system's central office. She was a talented singer and auditioned for the Ted Mack Amateur Hour while still in high school. She was also a gifted performer in plays and participated in Little Theater while living in Valdosta, GA. Virginia was very creative and enjoyed crafts, painting and sewing. She enjoyed the years of military life spent traveling with her husband and children while he was serving in the US Air Force. Their travels took them to Okinawa, Japan and various stateside bases. She enjoyed meeting people and she never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sabrina Leigh Nix and her parents, Earlie and Versa Mercer. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, James Brantley Nix, Sr., two daughters, Nikki (Tom) Bradford of Long Beach, MS, Cassandra (David) Lane of Cookeville, TN, her son LTC James Brantley (Melody) Nix, Jr. of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren, Erica, Brandon, Zachary, and Nathan Nix, Jennifer (Jon) Helton, and Breanna Bradford; her sister, Jo (Ralph) Lichtenberg, and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia always offered her entire family her unconditional love, support and encouragement. Each family member holds very special and precious memories of their time spent with her.
Virginia was a loving wife, a proud, adoring mother and grandmother, a very special sister and aunt, and a wonderful friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who have known and loved her. She was a member of Long Beach First Baptist Church and the Good News Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.at THE RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Rieman Family Funeral home where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to His Church Rising building fund for Long Beach First Baptist Church.
