Mary Ann Nicholson, 82, of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2012.
Mrs. Nicholson was born Mary Ann Shelton in Memphis, TN and raised in Vicksburg, MS. While attending Phillips Business College, she met and married James ""Jim"" Crawford Nicholson moving to Mississippi State College where he was on a basketball scholarship. After graduation, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson lived in Port Gibson, Natchez, and Lafayette, LA before settling in Gulfport in 1962.
Mrs. Nicholson was a founding member of the Woodglen Garden Club where she was affectionately referred to as ""Mayor"" of Woodglen. She was a member of Gulfport Yacht Club where she could be found playing bridge two or three times a week. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid sports fan, always looking forward to football and basketball seasons. Mrs. Nicholson became a member of the P.E.O. in 1986, participated in Cursillo in 2003 and was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Her favorite bible verse was Romans 8:28, ""All things work together for good for those who love the Lord. ""
Mrs. Nicholson was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Roy Shelton; her husband, James ""Jim"" Crawford Nicholson; her son, James ""Jim"" Shelton Nicholson; and her sister, Nell Shelton Brewer.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte Ann Nicholson and fianceÌ Aubrey J. Corley of Madison, MS; daughter-in-law, Annie Nicholson of Gulfport; sisters, Cynthia Lathrop of North Carolina, and Betty Hardin of Georgia. She is also survived by special friend and companion, Jackie Jackson of Gulfport.
The funeral service will be Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be at a later time at Biloxi National Cemetery.
