Mary C. Moody, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 85. She was born on August 24, 1938, in Pollock, Louisiana. Mary had a rich and fulfilling life, leaving an indelible impact on all who knew her.
Mary was a hardworking and dedicated individual throughout her career. In the 1970s and 1980s, she co-owned Fleet Tire Service in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her tireless efforts and commitment to excellence helped establish the business as a pillar of the community. After her time at Fleet Tire Service, Mary joined Wal-Mart as a long-time employee. Her determination and strong work ethic undoubtedly contributed to the success of the company.
However, Mary's toughest job by far was that of a Navy wife for 20 years. She showed tremendous resilience and unwavering support for her spouse during their time together. Mary's strength and commitment to her family were truly admirable.
Outside of work, Mary had a passion for league bowling and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She spent many enjoyable hours on the bowling lanes, displaying her competitive spirit and camaraderie with friends and teammates. Additionally, Mary followed baseball with great enthusiasm, always cheering for her beloved Braves.
Mary's warm heart and loving nature extended beyond her professional and personal interests. She cherished her family deeply and ensured their happiness was always at the forefront of her mind. She is survived by her son, William "Bill" Moody; daughter, Shannon (John) Arceneaux; her grandchildren, Garrett (Hailee) Moody, Brice (Mariah) Moody, Abigail Arceneaux and Hunter Moody; great-grandchildren, Milah Moody, Nash Moody and Navy Moody; brothers, Ron Scarbrough and Keith (Alice) Scarbrough; sister-in-law, Gail Scarbrough; and daughter-in-law, Sandra Moody.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Jannie and Norman Scarbrough; brother, Stephen Scarbrough; and sister, Liz Woodham.
A public visitation will be held to honor Mary's life. It will take place on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 12:00 - 2:00 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS. Friends, family members, and all those whose lives have been touched by Mary are welcome to attend and share their fondest memories.
Mary C. Moody will be greatly missed but forever remembered as a dedicated businesswoman, a loving mother and grandmother, and a pillar of strength in the face of life's challenges. Her legacy of kindness, perseverance, and love will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Mary.
