Mary Lee Lipscomb McNeil, age 70, of Gulfport, MS passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital Gulfport on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Her son, Lloyd Michael and her parents, Charles Lester Lipscomb and Rosalie Meagher Lipscomb, preceded her in death.
Mrs. McNeil is survived by her husband, Emry F. McNeil; a daughter, Kelly Ann McNeil of Austin, TX; a sister, Connie Lipscomb Walchak and her husband Gus Walchak of Roswell, GA; a daughter, Dawn Watson and her husband Danny Watson of Greenville, NC; three grandchildren, Patrick Woolbert of Shreveport, LA, Tyrrell Woolbert Davidson and her husband Ronnie Davidson and Hearne Woolbert of Nacogdoches, TX.
Mrs. McNeil was born in Richmond, VA in 1935 and lived in North Carolina and Tennessee before moving to Biloxi in 1943. She attended grammar school in Biloxi, but moved to Hattiesburg in 1946 when her father opened a business there. She attended public schools in Hattiesburg, graduating from Hattiesburg High School with honors. She also held BS and MBA degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, both with honors. After marrying and moving to Gulfport in 1959, Mrs. McNeil taught in Gulfport High School for several years. She worked for the city of Biloxi for fourteen years, serving as Chief Deputy Clerk, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer. She then moved to Gautier as City Manager for a short time before accepting the position of Executive Vice President with Gulf Coast Business Services. She later became President and CEO and retained this position until her retirement in 2004. Mrs. McNeil was a Methodist and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at Trinity Church from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday, the 12th of December with services also at Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 13th at 10 a.m. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9:45. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Katrina Relief Funds of Trinity United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army. Gulf Coast Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
