Joyce Cuevas age 78 of Pineville/ Pass Christian, MS, passed away to eternal rest on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. She was proceeded in death by her husband Floyd Cuevas, her parents Eugene and Jessie Lizana; siblings, Virginia Bazzell, Audrey Manuel, Leland Lizana, Marion Glassey and Della Mevius.
She is survived by sons Bruce Cuevas (Vicki) and Mark Cuevas; Grandchildren; Lauren Cuevas, Gabriella Cuevas and Isabella Cuevas, Great Grandchild Terry Bo Jenkins; sister Wilma Necaise.
Joyce was a kind and loving soul who lived her life constantly surrounded by her family, and enjoyed it to the fullest. She was a stern but loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to not only her family but all who knew her.
She supported her children and grandchildren in their pursuits of Basketball, Baseball, Dance, Soccer, Theatre, Tae Kwan Do, and Gymnastics. As they got more involved, Joyce loved attending their games and performances.
Growing up, she was also very involved in the community and played basketball for the Pass Christian Pirates and loved attending sports games. Joyce had a love of cooking for her family and friends. She served the community as a cook for Pass Christian Middle School for many years. Her seafood gumbo was loved by friends and her family never passed up a bowl of "Mawmaw/Aunt Joyce Cuevas ‘gumbo'. Joyce was an avid fan of the "Food Network Cooking Channel", but every once and a while she would correct network stars cooking techniques knowing she could do it better.
Joyce was a loyal "SAINTS" fan, and loved watching football games Sunday to support the "WHO DAT" nation. She was known to never leave home without her 1970s original Saints tote filled with her belongings. It was spotted with her at the hospital, nursing home, and St. Joseph Hospice.
She is loved and will be missed by many, Joyce lived her life as an example for us to follow: "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." - Unknown. And her family knows that Joyce is up there now with her husband Floyd watching over their family and friends now.
The family would like to express our greatest gratitude to St. Joseph Hospice in Gulfport MS. They provided the upmost care and kindness to Joyce and her family as she came to the end of her life. We feel Blessed to have had the opportunity for her to receive the care she did at St. Joseph Hospice. We would also like to thank MS Carole Canant and Peggy Lassabe who were caretakers for Joyce during the day and evening. It gave us great comfort to know she was at home and in the care of family friends when we could not be there with her.
